Hello friends and followers of the World Cosplay Summit USA!
We are excited to share with you an update for the World Cosplay Summit 2021 from Japan and how that will affect the WCS USA and the selection of WCS Team USA 2021.
Due to the ongoing Covid -19 pandemic, the WCS Inc. has held concerns that not all teams would be available to attend an in-person event for 2021.
In response, they have worked with WCS organizations around the world, including the USA, to create a virtual event that will be its own unique World Cosplay Summit Experience – a World Cosplay Championship Video Edition where teams across the world compete with a craftsmanship portfolio and video performance to become the 2021 WCS World Champion.

Rules are currently being formalized to create a fair and balanced event and each participating country will be responsible for the selection of its cosplay representatives.
What does that mean for the WCS USA Finals?
This means we will be hosting an entirely digital WCS USA Finals!
• There will be no traveling so cosplay teams of 2 from around the entire USA can apply to become WCS Team USA*, opening the event up to more cosplay teams and regions than ever before!
*Please note each applying team must meet age and citizenship/residency qualifications
• The rules are still being finalized with Japan and upon completion, we will give everyone a chance to review and apply to the contest.
• There will be both a video performance and craftsmanship portion to the WCS Online Edition and we anticipate many of the craftsmanship requirements to remain the same to our in-person events. The video portion of the contest is expected to allow teams to utilize video filming and editing and we are not expecting it to be the same as a stage performance. More clarification on this topic will come with the announcement of the rules.
• WCS Team USA 2020 will now become WCS Team USA 2022 and any Preliminary winners or Runner Up Teams will have their prizing rolled over to events in 2022.
• Teams who have previously applied to our event will be able to roll their participation over to our physical event in 2022, where WCS Team USA 2023 will be selected. They are welcome to apply to this event.
o If you apply to participate in the 2021 online edition and the in-person event in 2022 you may not re-use costumes or performances.
